SUMMARY

The Seasonal Fish & Wildlife Technician position assists the Fish and Wildlife Program to gather biological data among a variety of assessments. This position will include extensive fieldwork, equipment upkeep, and data entry.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED certificate.
  • Must be a student seeking a degree in natural resource management, fisheries, wildlife biology, conservation, or related field required or be within one year of completing their studies.
  • Must have a valid unrestricted Driver's License and be insurable by the GTB insurance carrier.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with resource inventories of fish, wildlife, plant, and forest cover by collecting and compiling a variety of existing wildlife and environmental data pertaining to any projects or activities identified by GTB Natural Resource Department.
  • Duties include but are not limited to; piping plover monitoring and protection, electro-fishing and netting, data collection and entry, public outreach and education on beaches and at special events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Department Manager, as appropriate to the project.
  • Flexible work hours outside of the normal 8am – 5pm workday may be required on occasion.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Able to work efficiently outdoors in varying conditions and terrain for extended periods of time and in isolated locations.
  • Excellent social and interpersonal skills, especially with diverse clientele and work groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Windows).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or GED certificate.
  • Must be a student seeking a degree in natural resource management, fisheries, wildlife biology, conservation, or related field required or be within one year of completing their studies.
  • Background in natural resource management, particularly in invasive species management.
  • Experience with hand tools used in landscaping.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a valid unrestricted Driver's License and be insurable by the GTB insurance carrier

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED

General office equipment, spotting scopes and digital data collection devices, electrofishing and netting equipment, boats and motors, water quality monitoring equipment, microscopes and laboratory equipment, hand tools and small power tools.

  • Frequently involves light work: exerting up to 25 pounds of force and/or up to 10 pounds of force and/or negligible amount of force to move objects and perform repetitive tasks.
