This is an Entry level position to work with the CTWS in their Satelite Office in Prairie City, Oregon. We have land managers, a monitoring team, and a native plant nursery on site. This position is flexible, as you can apply for either 3 months in the Nursery, 3 months with the field crew, or a 6 month hybrid position. We have permenent position available that this can move into, depending on The Tribe's and Applicant's needs. Discount housing available as area is remote.

Job Description:

***Based in Prairie City***

Nursery Crew Tech: Assisting native plant nursery staff with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: care of plant stock (weeding, watering, fertilizing, transplanting), trimming and pruning of shrubs and trees, maintaining irrigation systems, weed control via hand pulling and herbicide application, grounds maintenance (mowing, edging, raking), seed collection, out-planting of native plants at restoration sites, and maintaining equipment (UTV's, mowers, string trimmers, and water pumps). 

Field Crew Tech: Works as part of a crew to implement projects on the Forrest, Oxbow and Dunstan Conservation properties, as well as project work for the John Day Watershed Restoration program on sites throughout the John Day River Basin. Work to Include habitat enhancement projects, installation of spring developments, juniper felling and hand piling, tree planting for up to three months per year, control of noxious weeds using herbicides and mowers, fence repair and building in addition to operating and maintaining shop and field equipment. Knowledge and experience of various fence building techniques, ATV/Skidsteer/backhoe.

Requirements:

Applicant will be expected to work while standing, sitting, kneeling, frequent bending, and lifting for long periods with reasonable accommodations. Applicant should be able to lift/move objects of up to 50 lbs. Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather. Some weather clothing will be provided dependent on task.

Applicant should have:

  • High School diploma, or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • A strong understanding of English
  • The ability to pass a drug test
  • An understanding of plants and plant care (preferred)
  • Experience with farm work (preferred)
