Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department is seeking to hire 2 (two) Seasonal Trails Technician – Volunteer Project Leaders to assist with running volunteer events and work on trail maintenance projects. We are a small but inclusive crew with many years of experience and a fun-loving attitude. We work on 100+ miles of recreational and regional trail systems that immerse you into the beautiful mountains and plains of Colorado. These seasonal positions will work under direct supervision of a Volunteer Coordinator and will help supervise volunteers. This is a primarily field-based position and those hired can expect to spend the majority of their time working outdoors. When not helping run volunteer events, the Seasonal Trails Technicians will perform a variety of manual labor tasks, including trail maintenance tasks such as new tread construction, dry stone masonry, and lumber turnpike construction.
These are hourly, non-benefited positions that will work 40 hours per week, Tuesday - Friday 7:00am - 5:30pm including weekends spring through fall with advance notice. These positions will work out of 5201 Saint Vrain Road, Longmont, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, these positions are non-exempt (eligible for overtime).
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $25.00 - 26.20 Hourly
Tentative Hiring Timeline:

Examples of Duties
- Leads and assists with volunteer projects related to trail construction or maintenance; teaches technical trail skills and safety to volunteers
- Assists projects related to land management (grounds maintenance, noxious weeds, forestry, restoration, park building maintenance)
- Supports Volunteer Coordinators in preparing for volunteer events: conducts tool inventories, prepares and distributes tools, materials, safety supplies, and communication devices; may be asked to drive a tool trailer following an in-house trailer training
- Performs construction and maintenance tasks on natural and improved surface trails with guidance from Trails staff
- Performs semi-skilled and some skilled duties in the operation of hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment, and vehicles
- Performs trail maintenance with little supervision in accordance with Boulder County Trails guidelines
- Conducts regular tool maintenance on crew and volunteer tools; ensures cleanliness and organization of tool trailers and tool storage
- Communicates tactfully and effectively with the public and coworkers with excellent customer service skills, demonstrating respect for all identities
- Ability to stay engaged and motivate others with the task at hand
- Records project accomplishments daily and reports back to Volunteer Coordinators
- Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment including use of all required safety equipment
- May perform general maintenance and construction on other park facilities including trailheads and parking lots
- Performs related work, as required
- May be reassigned during emergency situations
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of:
- A high school diploma or equivalent

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with volunteers
