GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Big Game Alligator Program Leader, this position performs routine (journey-level) fish and wildlife conservation work. The Seasonal Tech is responsible for providing assistance and information to landowners and managers, sportsmen and the general public concerning the American Alligator. Assists the Program Leader in various facets of operations.  Duties include data entry, appropriate updates/revisions to printed documents and other materials and organizing and disseminating information. Provides assistance with any of the following: alligator spotlight and/or nest surveys; nest observation and/or counting; small hand/power tools; and other tasks as assigned.  Performs work activities during the day and/or night-time hours on land and/or water, and under harsh field conditions in hot and humid climate with biting insects; potentially venomous snakes.  Works under moderate supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned.  Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university.

Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application.

Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.    

Experience:

FWT IA – no previous season experience with TPWD required,

FWT IB – one season of experience as a TPWD Wildlife Division seasonal employee.

FWT IC – two seasons of experience as a TPWD Wildlife Division seasonal employee.   

Licensure:       

Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon maintaining required license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education     

Current graduate student enrolled in Wildlife Science or closely related Master’s or PhD degree program.

Experience:

Two years’ experience with data entry; personal computer software applications and administrative procedures.

Alligator capture and handling experience.

Experience with safe boating procedures.
