The Responsibilities of the Forestry Technician II:
Under general supervision, assists in managing the timber, wildlife, and public on state forest property.
- Assists with forest management activities including but not limited to timber cruising, timber marking, forest inventory, prescribe burning, wildfire suppression, tree planting checks, wildlife and recreation management, other silvicultural activities and general maintenance.
- Assists with forest product sale preparation to include establishment of sale boundaries, timber and pine straw sale evaluations, and announcements and awards of contracts.
- Assists in directing and checking forest management operations such as timber harvesting, pine straw raking, best management practices compliance, tree planting, site preparation, etc. to ensure compliance to contacts and forest certification standards.
- Performs administrative record keeping activities. Maintain written and/or electronic records of work performed in compliance with forest certification documents and other agency policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required in support of the SCFC mission and strategic goals.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
- A high school diploma and two (2) years' experience in forestry management. An associate's degree in forestry management or natural resources may be substituted for the required work experience.
- Must pass the agency’s initial physical fitness test that requires a two (2) mile walk carrying a 25lb. pack in 30 minutes or meet the agency's physical fitness program requirements.
- Must obtain firefighter registration with the Office of State Fire Marshal.
- Criminal background check and drug and alcohol test are required.
- A valid driver's license is required.
