This position is responsible for administering, managing and supervising the day-to-day law enforcement operations at Elephant Butte Lake State Park. As a Law Enforcement Manager, the incumbent will develop a visitor management & policing plan to ensure the safety of park visitors. The incumbent will ensure that park officers administer park rules accordingly to Division
Regulations and state laws. The incumbent will monitor the actions of park officers regarding all criminal offenses, arrests, collisions and ensure that the appropriate documents are successfully completed and submitted via chain of command. The incumbent will also assume responsibility regarding the collection and security of evidence collected by the park officers. The incumbent will also supervise significant events such as July 4th fireworks night and any other large event or holiday weekend. In addition to the law enforcement duties outlined hereto, the incumbent will be responsible for conducting administrative functions to include: educational programming public relations human resources development of law enforcement training and programs, volunteer program, marketing, and daily fee collections while following policy and regulations established by the applicable federal and state government agencies.

Ideal Candidate

A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of professional level experience operating within limited parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Experience in personnel management and administration of program management totaling two (2) years. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience.

  • 5 years LE experience
  • 2 years Supervisory experience of Law Enforcement personnel.
  • 2 years experience training LE employees and non LE employees

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Criminal Justice, or Wildlife Management from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of experience in parks and recreation management, natural resources, biology, environmental sciences, forestry, criminal justice, and/or wildlife management. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be a certified NM peace officer.
