The Stormwater Plan Review Engineer works within the Stormwater Management Division of the City of Raleigh's Engineering Services Department.  The position works with other engineers in the review of submitted stormwater management designs in the form of plans and calculations and in the approval of permits to ensure compliance with City, State, and Federal regulations as they relate to erosion and sediment control, post-construction stormwater, floodplains, watershed overlays, and riparian buffers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review development plans and calculations for various stages of development to ensure compliance with applicable code, specifications, requirements, regulations and standards. Review topics include erosion and sediment control, post-construction stormwater management, floodplain management, watershed overlays, riparian buffers, and storm drainage. The scale of projects ranges from minor modifications to single family homes to large, new commercial developments
  • Review surveys, technical reports, and operation and maintenance manuals, and leverage GIS to research development sites to assess applicable regulations and required authorization from other regulatory agencies
  • Respond to inquiries on and provide customer support for issues from property owners, developers, designers, and other internal staff. Provide troubleshooting, research, investigate, analyze and identify issues, and recommend and implement solutions
  • Attend meetings with staff, developers, engineers and other project stakeholders, providing updates and status reporting
  • Maintain project/program documentation, standards documentation, databases, files, records and reports

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field and 1 to 3 years' experience in architecture, interior design, engineering, construction management or related work

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licenses or Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire 
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE)
