Position Title: Summer Camp Educator
Supervisor: Development and Education Manager
Pay Rate: $20/hour
Position Summary: Delivery of education programming for Sound Salmon Solutions at our Salish Scientists Summer Camp. This is an in-person position at the Willow Creek Salmon and Watershed Education Center in Edmonds, WA.
Hours: 136 hours per work term. Hours include a training days on July 7th and 8th and summer camp weeks, which are July 13th - 17th, July 27th - 31st, August 10th - 14th. M-Th hours are 8:00am - 4:30pm. Fridays are an early release day 8:00am - 2:00pm. The selected candidate must be available for all the dates listed above.
Job Requirements:
- Submit information required and pass a background check for working with children, schools and interns
- Valid first aid and CPR certification
Qualifications:
- 18 years or older
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and an approachable personality with the ability to receive feedback and have a growth mindset
- Ability to navigate difficult outdoor classroom situations, including students and parents
- Ability to maintain accurate records with an attention to detail
- Proficient in the Google suite as well as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and competent with social media
- Strong interest in the recovery of salmon and their habitat
- Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal oversight as well as part of a team
- Punctual and prepared for daily tasks
- Able to work outside for long periods in a variety of weather conditions (reasonable disability accommodations will be provided if needed)
- Experience working in an outdoor, environmental summer camp setting
Responsibilities:
A. Education
- Deliver salmon, water quality, and stewardship education lessons to camp participants ranging from 3rd to 5th grade and 5th to 7th grade, including both team-teaching and solo teaching
- Assist with classroom management in an outdoor setting
- Support a fun, engaging, and educational summer camp experience for all campers
- Assist in lesson planning, preparation, and clean-up
- Document education lesson data for tracking & reporting purposes
- Provide support to the Education Program as needed
- Report any incidents, supply shortages, or program needs ASAP to the supervisor(s)
- Assist with program development
B. Miscellaneous
- Positively engage with camper parents and families
- Perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor(s)
