Start Date/End Date: May 27, 2024- August 9, 2024

To be considered for this position, applicants will need to be available for the entire duration of summer camp. Camp training and preparation will be May 28-May 30, 2024. The first day of camp starts June 2, 2024. When camp is in session, there are two scheduled shifts 8:00am - 4:00pm M-F or 8:30am - 4:30pm M-F. The Nature Center is closed on July 4th with no camp on that day. The last day of camp will be August 9th.

Positions Summary:

Summer Camp Lead Teacher- 2 positions

Camps are broken into weekly themes and ages/grades with those being 1st-3rd, 4th-6th, with a few 6th-8th. This position is responsible for being the lead teacher and instructor for each of those weeks. The lead teacher will work with the Education Director to implement camp lessons, activities, games, and crafts in a fun, engaging, and safe way.

Summer Camp Assistant Teacher- 2 positions

Camps are broken into weekly themes and ages/grades with those being 1st-3rd, 4th-6th, with a few 6th-8th. This position is responsible for assisting the lead teacher and instructor for each of those weeks. The assistant teacher will work with the Lead Teacher & Education Director to gather and prepare supplies, assist with implementing camp lessons, activities, games, and crafts in a fun, engaging, and safe way.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure the safety of campers at all times.
• Prepare, teach, and implement camp plans and activities in an efficient, engaging, & fun manner.
• Perform daily routine camp duties; such as setting up activity materials and equipment, gathering supplies, putting supplies away, cleaning up, etc.
• Maintain all camp supplies, equipment and camp classrooms.
• Understand and adhere to the CNCP mission, policies and procedures
• Monitor and appropriately correct campers’ behavior with support from the Education Director.
• Maintain familiarity with camp rosters and campers’ individual needs
• Handle live animal ambassadors in a classroom setting
• Lead outdoor hikes, activities, etc.

Education, Knowledge, and Skills Required:

• Experience working in a summer camp or similar work experience required, specifically for lead teacher positions
• Must have prior experience working with children
• Ability to work M-F 8:30-4:30
• Experience with informal and/or formal education, and environmental sciences preferred
• Animal handling experience preferred, but not required
• Public speaking and audience management skills
• The ability to work both indoors and outdoors in Florida’s environment, lift up to 50 lbs, and interact and engage on a high-energy level daily
• Have a positive & flexible attitude and work well with a team

Required Certifications/Courses or Requirements:

• First aid and CPR/AED certifications (Potential for employer to provide)
• Level II Background Screening (Employer provided)

Salary & Benefits:

$14-16 Starting hourly salary based upon experience.
