How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Technologist, Environmental provides technical advice, planning, design, coordination and integration of monitoring data, restoration, and ecosystem management projects. This position has a particular focus on the coordination and implementation of ecosystem management projects related to invasive species management and meadow restoration and management. This position provides technical input and organizes the resource requirements of field staff and external contractors for project implementation.

Major Responsibilities: 

• Provide meadow restoration and invasive species management technical support and on project development; plan design; internal, external and public consultations; permit acquisition; work plan development; assistance with budget preparation and cost control and close out under the direction of a Project Manager. 
• Coordinate daily project logistics, including resource scheduling, external contractors, field staff, volunteers and vehicles and equipment.  Analyzes data and performs QA/QC ensuring data integrity, troubleshoots issues where they arise for map creation through GIS applications
• Undertake tracking and scheduling of monitoring activities and logistics, vehicles, equipment and staffing on a daily and monthly basis; ensuring equipment is in a state of good repair.
• Monitors and maintains equipment to ensure the accuracy and timelines of the data collected.
• Oversee a team of staff and ensure that team members understand expectations; communicates schedule, tasks and discusses priorities.
• Communicates with team members to assess the status of work throughout the day/shift; amends work and reassigns staff as needed to direct workflow and accommodate for any situational circumstances.
• Supports onboarding and provides on the job training and support as needed for individuals they oversee.
• Supports a culture of workplace equity and inclusion that celebrates diversity.
• Ensures staff/volunteers/contractors, as applicable, comply with health & safety policies, and other TRCA policies, as applicable in various work environments.
• Requires the Technologist to work with pesticides and native plant seed collection and installation.
• Perform peer reviewed and practitioner-based research and benchmarking as well as quality analysis/ control, applying scientific methodologies as necessary.

What will you need to succeed:

Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in Environmental Sciences, Resource Management, Restoration Ecology, Forestry, or a related field
• Ontario Pesticide Exterminator’s License (Land or Forestry and/or Aquatic)
• Valid Ontario Class G2 driver's license 

 Experience 

• 3+ years of experience related to environmental technologist role, resource management, restoration ecology or invasive species management
• Requires expertise in the identification and ecology of native and invasive plants

Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies

• Working knowledge and understanding of watershed, ecosystem, natural science and urban restoration techniques and monitoring. 
• Strong knowledge of terrestrial ecosystems, wildlife and habitat requirements and environmental regulatory legislation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate project status for various audiences.  
• Able to comprehend documentation that is technical or scientific in nature, skilled in writing technical reports or manuals.
• Able to self-manage workload and prioritize tasks as an ongoing challenge in a frequently fluctuating workload and multiple deadlines. Knowledge of best management practices, and up-to-date knowledge of mitigation and controls, as well as safe work procedures.
• Effective problem-solving skills and leadership skills including staff supervision, coaching and mentoring.

• Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint; advanced MS Excel capabilities for analysis and data visualization.
