Wenatchee River Institute (WRI) is hiring a Traveling Naturalist – Field Educator 1.

This position will work with us towards our mission of connecting people, communities, and the natural world. The Traveling Naturalist program brings WRI hands-on, natural science education programs to the Wenatchee School District After School Program. This Traveling Naturalist – Field Educator 1 position is a grant-funded position, limited to the current 2018-19 school year.

The Field Educator 1 supports the implementation of field education programs at WRI. The following list of job duties is not an exhaustive list of all tasks associated with the position.

Responsibility:

Program Implementation & Operations
• Teach hands-on, natural science education programs in both classroom and outdoor settings primarily at school sites in the Wenatchee School District
• Operate and maintain lab equipment and field equipment
• Manage participants’ physical, social, and emotional safety/risk
• Teach programs independently and as part of a team
• Collaborate with Youth Education & Community Programs staff

• Assist in development of lessons and activities for field education programs
Responsibility: Program Sustainability
• Support Wenatchee River Institute mission and community outreach
• Share in campus stewardship responsibilities
• Take photos of programs and manage for social media and marketing use

Minimum Qualifications include:
• Relevant previous experience working with school-aged youth in a formal or informal capacity
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in science, environmental studies, or related field
• Commitment to stewardship, conservation, and connecting youth to the natural world
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within teaching and community
• Ability to work actively outdoors in a variety of conditions and share a tight office space
• Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances
• Ability to get to Barn Beach Reserve and other programming sites in Leavenworth and Wenatchee
• Current First Aid and CPR certifications or ability to obtain
