Position Summary (include Description of Work Unit and Position Summary):
A Vegetation Team Technical Support – Light Equipment Operator (LEO) and Commercial Driver position is available at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii with Colorado State University (CSU) and the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position is responsible for operating dump trucks and 2000+-gallon water trucks to haul materials and equipment in support of the Army’s Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) Program at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. This position will also operate light equipment to include, but not limited to: agricultural tractors, mowers, straw blowers, hydro-seeders, and skid-steers. Use of hand tools will be required to include, but not limited to: shovels, root rakes, pick axes, brush axes, and chainsaws.
Schofield Barracks was established in 1908 to provide mobile defense of Pearl Harbor and the entire island. Located 20 miles from Honolulu on the plateau or “central valley” of Oahu between the two volcanic mountains that comprise the island, the nearly 18,000-acre installation is home to the U.S. Army Garrison, Hawaii.
Work location is dependent on the needs of the partner/project/role and requires staff to be fully in-person.
Minimum Requirements
- A High school Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- At least 2 years of experience in land management, vegetation management, and land restoration
- Must have a valid and current Commercial Driver’s license Class A with tanker endorsement
- Experience with running and maintaining:
- Small agricultural tractors
- Mowers
- Skid-steers
- Handheld power equipment (trimmers, tillers, chainsaws, etc.)
- Manual tools (shovels, rakes, pick axes, brush axes, etc.)
- Ability to work outdoors and perform strenuous labor under all weather conditions (e.g., heat and humidity)
- Able to lift 40 pounds repeatedly without assistance
- Proficient written English communication skills
