Dickinson College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in our Environmental Studies Department, commencing July 1, 2024.  The successful candidate will approach environmental challenges from an interdisciplinary perspective and will be expected to use active pedagogy to engage students in the field of environmental studies. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a total of five upper-level Society and Environment classes during the year in their area of expertise, with one repetition. Classes could include but are not limited to Environmental Policy, Environmental Justice, Environment & Society, or Food Justice. Experience in Environmental Policy teaching is preferred. PhD required in Environmental Studies or a related social science field, such as Political Science, Policy Studies, Geography, Anthropology or Sociology. Advanced ABD may be considered.

The Department has strong relationships with the Food Studies and Health Studies Certificate programs. 

Carlisle, PA has a population around 20,000; in recent years, it has repeatedly been voted among the best small towns in the US, best historic towns, and ‘most livable’ small towns. Traveling by car, it is 20 minutes from Harrisburg, PA, two hours from Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, and three hours from New York City. Students, faculty, and staff often enjoy the food, art, entertainment, and cultural enrichment of these major hubs.
