Position Description
The Volunteer and Partnership Coordinator Apprentice supports the planning, coordination, and evaluation of volunteer programs across Land Between the Lakes facilities and events. This apprenticeship provides hands-on experience in volunteer management, data tracking, program support, outreach, and project leadership while building practical skills for a career in conservation, nonprofit work, or public lands management.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Data & Program Support
- Assist with recording and organizing volunteer data, including participation metrics such as hours, age, gender, region, interests, and motivations
- Build and maintain volunteer binders and resource materials for facilities including the Nature Station and Homeplace
- Support evaluation of volunteer engagement and participation trends
Program & Event Assistance
- Assist with volunteer-supported programs and events, including shoreline cleanups, Alternative Spring Break, Bugle Corps activities, and special events
- Help with event planning, logistics, volunteer check-in, and coordination
- Assist with tool organization and basic tool maintenance for volunteer projects
- Support Bugle Corps dinners and volunteer appreciation efforts
Outreach & Recruitment
- Assist with outreach events and volunteer recruitment efforts
- Create social media content highlighting volunteer projects, stewardship efforts, and engagement opportunities
- Learn many skills in resource management through exposure to multiple programs (approximately one day per week dedicated to learning from other departments or partner programs)
Capstone Project
- Develop, recruit for, lead, and evaluate one capstone volunteer project from planning through completion
- Coordinate volunteers, materials, and logistics for the project
- Document outcomes and lessons learned
- Create a final presentation and written review summarizing the apprenticeship experience, capstone project, and key takeaways
Requirements
- Completion of a 4-year degree in Communication, Nonprofit Leadership, Biology, Earth Sciences, Sustainability, Agriculture, Marketing, or similar
- Strong Interpersonal Skills and a desire to work with people
- Comfortable working in all weather conditions, around wildlife, biting insects, and other outdoor hazards
Time Commitment
- Schedule to be determined; includes regular program support, outreach events, and one day per week focused on learning from other programs or departments
- Approx. 40 hours per week
- Some weekends and holidays (excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years)
- Start date is flexible
