Job Summary
This position exists to protect and enhance wildlife populations through research and monitoring of wildlife diseases in accordance with Section of Wildlife policies, priorities, programs and goals; and to respond to emergency disease threats that may impact wildlife, domestic animals, or humans. This position will support the Wildlife Health Program supervisor and Research Scientist in planning, executing and reporting wildlife-health related surveillance, management, and original research on game species of Minnesota. This position will evaluate impacts of wildlife disease management policies, evaluate management efforts aimed at reducing disease impacts, and develop funding proposals to support our work. The position will disseminate information and provide technical expertise to Wildlife staff, other natural resources professionals, and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications

• A master's degree in wildlife ecology or closely related field, and two (2) years of professional (post-graduation) wildlife research experience; or a PhD in wildlife
  ecology or closely related field.
• Technical knowledge of wildlife ecology and conservation, including wildlife disease, vertebrate anatomy and physiology, and populations dynamics.
• Ability to design, implement, analyze interpret and report management-oriented wildlife research.
• Computer proficiency, including knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, and statistical programs sufficient to manage data input, retrieval and compilation,
  maintain databases, and train others to use these systems.
• Ability to use ArcPro and Program R, or equivalent statistical software.
• Technical knowledge of statistics sufficient to interpret and analyze ecological data properly.
• Knowledge of scientific and experimental research techniques, including experience with wildlife capture and tracking using radio telemetry.
• Ability to communicate with diverse audiences, including both public and peer groups, sufficient to document and disseminate completed research results.
• Ability to work in adverse weather and environmental conditions such as: heat, rain/humidity, extreme cold, and being exposed to ticks and biting insects.
• Ability to work effectively and courteously with people.
• Ability to lead the work of others.
• Ability to prepare final reports, including authoring and publishing of peer-reviewed scientific journal articles.
• Demonstrated communication skills sufficient to maintain exemplary relationships with Minnesota wildlife managers and answer relevant research questions.

Preferred Qualifications

• PH.D. in wildlife ecology or a closely related area.
• Research and / or management experience with wildlife health of game species.
• Experience directly related to the publication of research results in the peerreviewed literature, including at least two (2) manuscripts in review, in press, or
  previously published in a wildlife management-oriented or applied focus journal.

Additional Requirements
This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver's license with a clear driving record.
