Minnesota Association of Watershed Districts Executive Director

The Board of Directors of the Minnesota Association of Watershed Districts (MAWD) announces the retirement of their current Director, in December 2017. The Board is seeking an experienced Executive Director, to oversee all operations, functions and activities. You will be the face of the organization, responsible for assisting the Board with developing a strategic direction and implementing a high-quality vision. The Minnesota Association of Watershed Districts, provides educational opportunities, information and training for watershed district managers and staff through yearly tours, meetings and regular communication

Executive Director Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a liaison between member organizations, the Board of Directors (BOD) and Administrators;
  • Forge and maintain relations of trust with state agency partners (BWSR, MPCA, DNR etc.);
  • Forge and maintain relations of trust with our local government partners (MASWCD, AMC, League of Minnesota Cities, Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities etc.);
  • Maintain relationships with conservation, environmental and agriculture communities;
  • Manage MAWD’s state legislature and state agency lobbying program and other governmental relations activities;
  • Provide communication updates to members and our partners;
  • Prepare the annual MAWD budget in conjunction with the Finance Committee and the MAWD BOD;
  • Produce the Annual MAWD Membership Conference, Meeting and Trade Show and any Special Meetings;
  • Manage the MAWD office and staff;
  • Apply for and manage various grants;
  • Act as the public voice for the mission of the organization;
  • Promote the success and formation of new watershed districts across the state and educational opportunities for managers, administrators and staff;
  • Assist in developing remedial action for watershed districts in times of crisis management issues;
  • Prepare the annual filing of:  non-profit status report for the Secretary of State; State Auditor’s Lobbying Annual Expenses Report and the Campaign Finance and Disclosure Board’s Lobbyist Principal Report.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in natural science preferred; proven experience in a managerial position; strong understanding of water issues; proven communication (oral and written) and public speaking skills.

Desired: Master’s Degree in Natural Science or Public Administration

Compensation range is based on experience within the range of $70,000-$90,000 per year.
