Join our fun staff at the Wahsega 4-H Center in the North Georgia Mountains and work outside everyday teaching children about the wonders of nature, teambuilding, and STEM activities. Housing provided at our beautiful camp located in a mountain valley 20 minutes from the quaint town of Dahlonega, Georgia.

About the position: Working alongside a talented team of educators, you will be able to share your energy and enthusiasm by teaching children and school groups in the outdoor classroom. Our educators take pride in making school programs more meaningful by developing an awareness, knowledge, and appreciation in young students. This exciting atmosphere provides classes ranging from archery to astronomy. As a seasonal educator, you will gain the additional benefit of learning a wide range of new skills that can be applied to different aspects in your life.

  • Build your resume with the included and highly valuable in-depth training of all courses provided during first two weeks of employment.
  • Upon completion of training, educators are well equipped to teach courses.

Key responsibilities & duties: Educate K-12 students on various subjects by utilizing activities with discussion.  Subjects include variations of interactive courses (e.g. archery and survival skills).  Visit https://georgia4h.org/4-h-centers/wahsega-4-h-center/classes/ for a complete list of our day courses.  Educators work flexible hours that primarily include teaching courses, typically in the day.  Occasional weekend work may be required. Care taking of the animal ambassadors in the onsite herpetology lab as well as kitchen duties is shared among the educators on staff. These responsibilities and duties will be covered in the included in-depth two-week training. 

About the facility: The Wahsega 4-H center is located at the foot of the Appalachian Trails in the beautiful Chattahoochee National Forest with a waterfall onsite. One of the nation’s largest residential environmental education programs, this center uses the outdoors to provide a classroom without walls for students grades K-12. Established in 1979, the Georgia 4-H program now has 5 successful state facilities serving more than 37,000 students each year.

End Date: 11/25/2024 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Natural Science, Environmental Education, Biology, Forestry, Outdoor Education, or related fields.

Personal Traits: Commitment, genuine interest in child development, dynamic personality, well-developed communication skills, creativity, and leadership ability.  

Additional Information: *Fully furnished, on-site housing available for $20/week. Meals are available for $3.00/meal. No pets allowed.
