Spend your summer working outside on Adirondack Forest Preserve trails. *Housing provided*

Work includes overseeing 2 Trail Crew Members and participating in a variety of trail projects on State lands in the Southern and Central Adirondacks. The Trail Crew Supervisor will be responsible for working with and keeping the crew on task as they complete various trail-related projects. Trail projects include, but are not limited to, bridge construction, trail hardening and drainage work, clearing of blowdown, installation of rocks for retention or hardening of trail tread, new trail construction or trail re-routes, turnpike installation, installing signs and trail markers, and constructing or relocating privies. The Trail Crew Supervisor will work with and maintain hand tools and equipment. They will also record photos and information on infrastructure condition while in the field for use by the land managers in planning future projects. They will be responsible for keeping track of Trail Crew Member’s work schedule, communicating with administrative supervisor, interacting with the Land Manager regarding scope of work for each project and keeping records of progress.These are full-time seasonal positions, approximately 5 months in duration starting mid-May. The position end date is negotiable depending on the candidate's schedule and prior commitments. 

Housing in the Warrensburg area can be provided.

Minimum Qualifications: All the above minimum qualifications for Trail Crew Member, plus the following:

  • Must have experience in trail work, preferably sustainable trail building and maintenance including hardening techniques
  • One year of practical experience in performing general construction or maintenance tasks, including familiarity with timber construction techniques and tools that are associated with building a trail bridge or privy
  • Must have experience in leadership or supervisory roles

Preferred additional qualifications:

  • First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Chainsaw training
