Administrative Intern

Carolina Waterfowl Rescue (CWR) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Administrative Intern to join our team at our animal rescue and sanctuary in Indian Trail, NC.  This is a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience in non-profit operations while working in a fast-paced, mission driven environment surrounded by a wide variety of animals.  If you are a quick learner who enjoys multitasking, interacting with public, and supporting animal welfare, this internship ofters meaningful, hands-on experience and mentorship in the day-to-day operations of a busy rescue organization.

What you will do:

As an Administrative Intern, you'll play a key role in keeping our front office and programs running smoothly.  Responsibilities include: 

  • Perform routine clerical and secretarial duties
  • Work with Microsoft Office and Internal systems
  • Serve as a welcoming presence at the front desk, interacting with the public
  • Assist with animal intakes
  • Support adoptions
  • Accept and proccess donations
  • Enter and update animal data in Raptor Med software. (Training provided)
  • Provide care for select house animals
  • Maintain a clean, organized front office and house area
  • Receive and process deliveries (FedEx, UPS, USPS and public drop-offs)
  • Handle store purchases and work the register
  • Assist individuals picking up auction items
  • Prepare select items for shipment
  • Maintain house supply inventory listing
  • Communicate with the Intake Hotline regarding animals enroute
  • Collaborate with staff and leadership on additional projects as needed

Internship Details:

  • Position Type: Seasonal, stipend-based Internship
  • Duration: May through August (start date flexible) 
  • Time commitment: 40 hours per week
  • Stipend: $500 upon successful completion of the internship
  • Must be able to work some nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be confortable working outdoors daily in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity and rain 
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team

Eligibility:

Preference will be given to:

  • Current college students in a related field
  • Recent graduates with a bachelor's degree

We will also consider mature high school students (16 and over) with a strong interest in animals and non-profit work
