TITLE: ANNUAL GIVING AND MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT MANAGER
LOCATION: McLane Center - Concord, NH
COMPENSATION: Compensation for this salaried, full-time position is $24 - $28 per hour, commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for NH Audubon’s generous benefit package, including paid time off (13 holidays, vacation & sick time), medical and dental plans, a health reimbursement agreement, retirement account with employer match, life and AD&D insurance, disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, a NH Audubon annual membership, access to pro deals, and paid professional development opportunities. Mileage beyond normal commute reimbursed at current federal rate.
HOURS: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, one-hour lunch. Additional hours may be required as necessary.
SCHEDULE: 35 hours per week, full-time salary staff position. Schedule may vary according to needs and will include some evenings and weekends.
FUNCTION: This position will support the mission of New Hampshire Audubon: to protect New Hampshire’s natural environment for wildlife and for people, by increasing annual giving, expanding and diversifying the donor and member base, growing corporate sponsorships and partnerships, and strengthening relationships with current supporters. This role oversees the logistics of annual appeals, manages membership engagement and fulfillment, coordinates corporate sponsorship opportunities, develops donor stewardship initiatives, and implements strategies to encourage increased giving. Additionally, the position collaborates across departments to integrate donor engagement efforts, maintain accurate donor records, and support community outreach activities .
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Increase annual giving:
- Manage logistics of annual direct mail and email appeals including maintaining a schedule; drafting content; planning segments; working with Director of Philanthropy, communications, conservation, and education staff to finalize content; working with communications staff/vendors to finalize design and layout; coordinating with print/mail vendors; and coordinating with the Development Database Administrator to pull mailing lists. Current annual appeals include spring, fall, calendar and fiscal year-end, monthly membership renewals and occasional membership re-join appeals.
- Manage strategy and implementation for online giving campaigns including NH Gives and Giving Tuesday.
- Manage membership program, including maintaining a current roster; regularly evaluating and adding new benefits; fulfilling current membership benefits; fulfilling complimentary memberships; communicating ways current members can make the most of their membership benefits; and regularly distributing a series of new member and donor welcome communications.
- Develop, implement, and manage a monthly giving sustainer program.
- Work with the Director of Philanthropy to develop and implement strategies that engage and encourage donors and members to give at higher levels, with a focused growth plan for renewing, upgrading, and increasing membership support.
- Using data provided by the Development Database Administrator, work with the Director of Philanthropy to analyze ROI and other indicators of appeals to inform future strategies.
Diversify and increase donor base:
- Collaborate with the Director of Philanthropy and Community Outreach Coordinator, and communications team to develop strategies and plans to acquire new donors and members, and implement a giving cycle including identification, establishment, stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation.
- Collaborate with volunteer, conservation, program, operations, and education staff to develop volunteer-to-donor and visitor-to-donor conversion strategies and processes.
- In collaboration with communications, community outreach, program, conservation, and education staff, support existing programs, and plan and implement additional special programs to help diversify donor base.
- Assist Community Outreach Coordinator with building and maintaining positive relationships with community members and partners to promote New Hampshire Audubon to new audiences and prospective new donors and members. Assist with representing NH Audubon at both internal and external tabling events/opportunities to spread membership and general awareness of New Hampshire Audubon.
Donor communications/stewardship:
- Prioritize timely donor acknowledgement following receipt of gifts, by merging, personalizing, printing, signing and mailing individual donor gift acknowledgements and ensuring donor intent is met by reviewing back-up for gifts.
- Print and distribute pledge reminders and yearly tax receipts.
- Coordinate with the Director of Philanthropy to refresh acknowledgement content regularly.
- Maintain an active level of written and digital correspondence with all individual donors below the leadership level by developing cultivation, stewardship, and engagement opportunities that support the progression of a long-term relationship with the organization.
- Respond to all membership inquiries including those from the website, from prospective and existing members concerning membership, gifts, contact information changes and memorials, with backup provided by colleagues with specified expertise on inquiries
- Manage online giving forms to increase annual participation, and, in conjunction with communications department, regularly evaluate, update, and improve content on the membership & development section of the website utilizing feedback from donors and knowledge of best practices.
- Create and implement stewardship and recognition programs for donors to foster a culture of appreciation, recognition, and ongoing engagement.
- Coordinate with the communications department and/or vendors to draft, finalize, design and publish impactful donor communication materials including an annual donor impact report and newsletter and social media content.
Other duties as assigned to assist with department and office management, including:
- Coordinate with vendors and maintain the supply of letterhead and envelopes for office-wide use.
- Collaborate with administrative assistant on managing the bulk mail account for organization-wide use to ensure continuity and availability for mailings.
- In collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy, manage NH Audubon’s corporate sponsorship program, including annual, event, program, and other sponsorship opportunities.
- Identify and cultivate prospective corporate sponsors, with a focus on developing new relationships and expanding support from existing corporate partners.
Professional development:
- Stay updated on best practices in development, annual giving, and donor relationship management through workshops, conferences, and training, while building a professional network for collaboration and growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: Three years of office and fund-raising software experience required; Blackbaud/Raisers Edge or other relational database experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to make independent and coordinated decisions required. Must have excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively within a diverse community, as part of a team. Experience with spreadsheets, mail merge and word processing programs required. Previous experience working with volunteers in a non-profit setting preferred.
