Supervises: Arbor Technicians

Position Summary: 

The Arbor Team Crew Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the management and maintenance of trees on the northeast side of the park within Forest Park Forever-managed zones. This position plays a critical leadership role in coordinating daily arboricultural operations, supporting staff development, and ensuring tree care objectives align with organizational goals. 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Supervise and manage a crew of Arbor Technicians, including scheduling, analyzing employee performance, and progress toward annual goals, in collaboration with the Conservation Arborist. 
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment by guiding the team and addressing any on-site issues or concerns.
  • Serve as a mentor to technicians by ensuring they gain a working understanding of Arbor Team processes and procedures, assigned work zones, daily responsibilities, and the safe and proper use of tools and equipment. 
  • Communicate team needs, such as reporting broken tools, equipment malfunctions, or interpersonal mediation requirements, to the Conservation Arborist.
  • Collaborate closely with FPF staff to ensure arboriculture needs within the assigned area are identified, communicated, and addressed effectively. 
  • Meet regularly with the Conservation Arborist to review organizational priorities, establish seasonal responsibilities, and prioritize work orders. 
  • Coordinate with the Conservation Arborist to review planting sites and submit utility locate requests in advance of planting and excavation activities. 

Position Qualifications:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in arboriculture or a related field is a plus.
  • Ability to exert physical effort for extended periods while performing manual labor in extreme temperatures.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than eighty (80) pounds.
  • Knowledge of tools, materials, and practices used in tree maintenance.
  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate vehicles and light equipment.
  • Proficient in following oral and written instructions delivered in person, over the radio, or by telephone.

License Required: Driver’s License

Physical Work Conditions:

  • Ability to exert physical effort for extended periods in performing manual labor in extreme temperatures required. 
  • Ability to frequently move and/or lift up to fifty (50) pounds and carry for a reasonable distance, and occasionally lift and/or move more than eighty (80) pounds. 
  • Applicant must have knowledge of tools, materials, and practices of tree maintenance, while possessing the ability to operate an automotive vehicle and light equipment in a safe and efficient manner. 
  • Ability to hear, understand and follow oral and written instructions over phone and in person.
