The Las Vegas Urban Forest Center’s Arborist-in-Training (AIT) intern program is a paid ($20/hour, 39-hour per week), 20-week workforce development program that uses environmental service to teach career and technical skills while increasing urban tree canopy cover in Clark County, Nevada. AIT Interns will be taught by industry professionals and experts in a mix of classroom and hands-on learning in the field. They will gain the labor skills and technical experiences required to enter a range of careers in the urban forestry industry. After completing the Arborist-in-Training program and working full-time for two years in arboriculture, trainees are eligible to take the International Society of Arboriculture’s Certified Arborist examination.
AIT Interns Will Learn:
- Native tree identification and selection
- Tree care
- Tree growing
- Tree planting/removal
- Safety (climbing, aerial lifts, chainsaws, and electrical hazards)
- Environmental benefits of urban forestry
AIT Interns Will Work On:
- Planting native trees
- Tree maintenance and monitoring
- Tree identification and removal
- Pruning, cutting, trimming trees
AIT Intern Requirements:
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- Not in college or on a career track
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions (extreme heat and cold)
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for 5-7 hours a day
- Ability to work well with a team
- Have an interest in outdoor, hands-on training
Important Dates and Times:
Training begins August 3, 2026 and ends December 18, 2026
Training hours: Monday – Friday, 6:30 am – 3:30 pm (hours may change depending on season)
