Join the vibrant team at American Forest Management, Inc. (AFM) as an Area Manager in the Olympic Peninsula area, Washington. Reporting directly to the Chehalis District Manager, this role plays a pivotal part in comprehensive forest management on 55,000 acres, overseeing planning, client relationships, client reporting, budgeting, timber harvest and permitting, log sales, road construction and maintenance, silviculture, and non-timber income programs. You'll also handle additional duties assigned by the District and Region Manager.

AFM’s team of professionals is focused on meeting client needs by providing a complete range of forestry services including land and wildlife management, land sale and acquisition services, forest inventory and design, growth and yield modeling, cash flow projections, environmental and farmland services, appraisal, forest resource data management and harvest scheduling.
Key Responsibilities:
- All aspects of fieldwork, office work, analysis, and reporting.
- Personnel management of one senior-level forester.
- Prepare budgets, annual operating plans, forecasts, and reports for clients.
- Manage client relationships, participating in meetings with landowners/clients to review management activities on their timberland.
- Oversee the log and timber sales program.
- Design and secure permits for harvest unit layouts in a multifaceted regulatory landscape.
- Manages contract negotiation and contract administration for management operations, such as timber harvesting, road construction and maintenance and silviculture.
- Manage and execute easements, road use agreements, and other agreements on the property.
- Oversee road construction, road maintenance, and permitting.
- Silviculture and reforestation planning, managing contracts efficiently.
- Recreational lease and minor forest products administration.
- Participation in industry meetings and co-ops.
- Overnight travel and ability to function as a team member on projects throughout district and region.
- Other tasks as assigned by the District and Region Managers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in forestry or equivalent.
- 7+ years of applicable experience.
- Management experience preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient team player with adaptability.
- Capability to work in challenging field conditions.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects under strict time constraints in a fast-paced work environment.
- Proficiency in basic computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Arc GIS.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Capability to work in challenging field conditions.
- Valid Driver’s License with safe vehicle operation skills.
- Soft Skills: communication, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability, attention to detail, time management and decision-making.

Work Environment:
This role balances office work with remote field assignments. Fieldwork often involves solo ventures into remote forest lands accessed by private unimproved roads, necessitating off-road driving skills. Expect extended periods outdoors, including adverse weather conditions like summer heat and extreme cold. Travel to properties across Washington may be required, potentially involving out-of-town and overnight stays (expenses covered).
Salary and Benefits:
