Overview:
Tennessee State Parks are some of the most beautiful in the United States. This role has responsibilities that span both statewide and regional levels, providing support to all Tennessee State Parks. The Assistant Chief Ranger should exemplify the highest level of professionalism and possess a diverse skill set related to park and natural resource management, law enforcement, and public safety in outdoor recreational environments. Additionally, the individual should act as a mentor and a “Leader among Rangers,” serving the state of Tennessee selflessly.

The ideal candidate will understand and effectively manage the balance of daily responsibilities within our team of Tennessee Park Rangers. To qualify for this position, applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, at least three years of full-time professional law enforcement experience, and a minimum of one year of experience in training responsibilities. The role requires the ability to work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications (MQs) for this position. Highlighted Responsibilities:

• Assist the Chief Ranger with safety and security policy and state law compliance for all Tennessee State Parks, State Natural Areas, and State Forests. 
• Serve as a specialized instructor for law enforcement subjects to ensure all commissioned officers meet Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) requirements. 
• Supplement and provide regional training for specialized operations teams such as Fire, Medical, Search & Rescue, etc. 
• Track class attendance and compliance to ensure Rangers have met certification requirements for Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). 
• Assign, track equipment and tools, assist in managing training, supplies of the Ranger Program to operate within budget, and ensure accurate and timely application of required law enforcement and medical technology systems. 
• Assist Chief Ranger with the administration of the Ranger Program in a regional and/or area capacity. Specifically, Area 6/Northeast TN. 
• Assistant Chief Ranger reports to the Chief Ranger, may supervise others, and provides support to their assigned area.
