The NJ Tree Foundation is a statewide nonprofit currently seeking an Assistant Crew Supervisor to work with our Green Streets Crew Supervisor to train and lead crews on tree planting and maintenance contracts, and for ongoing maintenance of the Grove of Remembrance at Liberty State Park. 

Each tree planting season, the NJ Tree Foundation partners with the NJ Parole Board to hire men for a tree planting crew, creating transitional jobs for individuals under parole supervision. In the summer and winter, the Green Streets crew maintains trees at Liberty State Park and at various other locations throughout New Jersey.

This program is based out of Jersey City and Newark in northern New Jersey but accepts tree planting and maintenance contracts statewide.  Responsibilities include training and supervision of reentry crew under the direction of the Crew Supervisor, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and pick up / drop off and daily transportation of crew members and equipment to and from work assignment sites.  The Assistant Crew Supervisor will work as a member of the tree planting and maintenance crew in addition to these responsibilities.

We are seeking an applicant with the following qualities:

• You have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation.
• You are able to show respect for and work collaboratively with a diverse range of people from all walks of life.
• You want to learn about tree planting & pruning, tree identification & establishment, and landscape & rain garden maintenance.
• You can repeatedly lift 50 pounds and perform all other physical requirements associated with tree planting and maintenance.
• You show up on time and are ready to work.

NJTF Green Streets Assistant Crew Supervisor Pay and Benefits

• Salary of $50,000 - $55,000 annually, commensurate with experience
• 40-hour work week with compensatory time accrued for any hours worked above 80 per pay period
• Paid holidays and vacation
• After 3 months, eligible for health insurance and retirement plan

Qualifications & Skills

• Must be able to drive a truck with a trailer
• Experience planting and maintaining trees a plus
• Leadership experience a plus
• Must be able to repeatedly plant large trees and complete other physical labor tasks
• Experience with skattrack / bobcat a plus

Education & Licenses

• Valid, clean NJ Driver’s License
