Come work with us!  We are accepting applications for an Associate Environmental Planner for the Williamson Act team.  We work on farmland preservation, legislation, statute technical assistance, and CEQA for farmland impacts. Our associated team works on mapping and monitoring California farmland.

We are a friendly, small unit seeking applicants with land use or environmental planning background and basic GIS skills.  Legislative and CEQA analysis a plus!

Located in downtown Sacramento California, with a hybrid telework/in-office schedule.

 The Associate Environmental Planner is responsible for reviewing and tracking (in GIS) contract termination requests for Williamson Act (WA) and Farmland Security Zone (FSZ) contracts. The primary responsibilities include tracking and processing contract cancellations, rescissions, easement exchanges, and public acquisitions. This position analyzes data and prepares WA biennial statistics for posting on the program’s website, reviews potential material breaches, and maintains information on local government agricultural land use policies. The incumbent coordinates with Legal to provide technical assistance on WA statutes and requirements for contracted land and land in agricultural preserves to all levels of government, consultants, and the public.

Pertinent education and/or experience is in natural resources, environmental studies, or land use planning. The incumbent is expected to have basic GIS education and/or training (formal and/or on-the-job), and to have knowledge of and experience with basic general and geospatial data analysis, GIS software, data management, Microsoft Office suite of tools (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), local (city/county) land use planning processes, and have project and time management skills. The ability to learn, or familiarity with, interpretation of legislative statute, regulations, ordinances, and CEQA is needed.
