Position Overview:
The Associate Vice President – Investments plays a key role on the investment team, working closely with all of Alder Point’s senior leadership to source, evaluate, and execute investments across multiple regions in the U.S., with a particular focus on farmland. General responsibilities include investment due diligence, financial modeling, industry and regional market research, transaction support, production of investment recommendations, asset management, execution of value creation strategies, and related tasks. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • With direction from senior investment team members, leading financial analysis, valuation, and due diligence, and transaction processes on potential investment properties
  • Identifying and evaluating new investment opportunities through regional market research and property sourcing and screening
  • Conducting in-depth market and industry research on timber and agricultural commodities
  • Assisting in negotiating and transacting property acquisitions, divestitures, and other capital transactions
  • Producing investment committee presentations and memos
  • Executing and overseeing asset management and value creation initiatives
  • Participation in meetings with existing and prospective Alder Point clients and preparation of materials to support such meetings
  • Leading special projects, such as evaluation of technology solutions for investment analysis and management, impact measurement efforts, and responses to Alder Point client inquiries 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4-7 years of experience in farmland investment, agribusiness, environmental markets, real estate, private equity, investment banking, or a related field
  • Personal integrity, positive reputation for honesty and transparency, and commitment to excellence

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Competencies:

  • Graduate degree in an applicable field, such as finance, economics, business, natural resources, and/or agriculture
  • Passion for sustainable investments in agriculture, food systems, infrastructure, or related sectors
  • Technical training or practical experience in production agriculture or nature-based climate mitigation
  • Advanced financial modeling and valuation expertise
  • Strong deal execution and due diligence capabilities
  • Property or asset management experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a small, growing firm, where employees contribute to overall firm success through special projects and tasks that may fall outside the scope of their primary role

Location: This in-person role is based in Lafayette, Colorado. 

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: $135,000 - $155,000, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Bonus Eligibility: This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus up to 30% of base salary, subject to individual and firm performance.

Physical Requirements: This position is primarily an in-office role, which will require work at a computer and desk for extended periods of time. Video calls are also a key component of the role. Walking on rural properties in variable weather conditions will be required for successful investment diligence and field tours.

Office Culture: As a small and growing team, we rely on our strong and collaborative team culture, and we believe that in-person time together is essential to building and sustaining that culture. Team members are expected to be in the office Monday-Friday during regular business hours most of the time, with flexibility to accommodate occasional family obligations, appointments, or other commitments that require remote work.
