HWA Wildlife Consulting, LLC (HWA) is a natural resource (wildlife and plant) consulting firm based in Laramie, Wyoming that specializes in wildlife monitoring, regulatory compliance, impact assessment, and wildlife research. We are looking for motivated avian biologists to join our team to assist with avian surveys and monitoring, primarily in and around wind development sites at multiple locations in Wyoming. Duties would include observing eagles and other raptors, collecting observation data, and curtailing wind turbines. Positions will begin early January, 2026 for at least 6 months, with potential for extension. Shared field housing would be available.
NOTE: Work weeks would include 4-5 days a week and occur on weekends and holidays. Field work would occur in remote locations and would require field navigation, observing and documenting avian activity, and recording relevant information.
REQUIRED Qualifications:
- Must have the ability to travel and perform field work over weekends and holidays.
- A.S. or B.S. degree in Wildlife, Natural Resources, Ecology, or related field.
- Ability to identify common avian species of Wyoming, especially eagles and other raptor species.
- Candidates must be able to follow all safety protocols and use good judgement while in the field.
- Experience driving in winter conditions and use of 4WD vehicle.
- Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Drug screening required (pre-employment and random testing).
The ideal applicant must have a strong background and experience conducting avian identification surveys, preferably with eagles and other raptor species. They also must have a keen sense of observation, careful field data collection skills, strong navigational skills, and be proficient using computers, GPS units, and other electronic devices. Preferred candidates will be highly motivated, responsible, self-reliant, get along well with others, and enjoy working in challenging field settings. Field conditions include high elevations, rugged terrain, and highly variable weather conditions. Above all, we are looking for applicants with a good sense of humor and strong work ethic who are dedicated to accomplishing tasks as part of a team.
Applicants should be physically capable of extensive field work and should exhibit professionalism in landowner and agency interactions as representatives of HWA.
