About the Position

The Bilingual Farm to School Educator will work directly with elementary-aged students at local schools and outdoor summer camps, providing engaging, hands-on learning experiences in both English and Spanish as needed. Farm to School programming includes Classroom Food Adventures, where students make simple recipes in the classroom; Garden Adventures, featuring hands-on lessons in school gardens; and Farm Field Trips (during the spring). The ideal candidate enjoys working with elementary-aged children and is confident in taking the lead with a class/group of 20 or more students. They are engaging, dependable, and able to manage class dynamics and adapt activities to meet students’ needs. A successful candidate is comfortable providing instruction in both English and Spanish, working independently, and communicating and collaborating effectively with school and CEC staff. The position may occasionally support other CEC education programs, including afterschool programs, School’s Out Adventures, NaturePlay preschool, and other outreach or educational programs or events. During summer camps and environmental education programs, educators lead lessons, activities, and games focused on ecology, science, nature connection, skill building, and more; there is an opportunity to continue working full-time during our summer camp
season.

Reports to: Community Food Systems Manager

Employment Type: Part-time, 12-18 hours per week (through mid-June)
Full time, 30+ hours per week (mid-June through August)

Pay Rate: $18 - $19 per hour DOE
Location: Primarily Corvallis, Oregon with occasional travel to Albany schools
Hours: Typically Tuesdays through Fridays during school hours (8:30-2:30pm) with occasional programs (scheduled in advance) at other times.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead activities focused on food or garden education for children in grades K-6, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment
• Communicate professionally with children, families, coworkers, community partners, interns, and volunteers.
• Prepare materials and help maintain organized program spaces.
• Occasionally participate in outreach events, staff meetings, trainings, and other CEC programs.
• Occasionally attend education-oriented outreach events, such as science and curriculum nights at local schools
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.
• Experience leading groups of elementary aged children in activities and lessons in an outdoor and/or classroom setting.
• Work experience or degree in horticulture, elementary education, community food systems, public health, environmental/food policy, nutrition, or related field.
• Dependable and able to follow through on responsibilities, communicate proactively, and work independently while knowing when to seek support.
• Able to work collaboratively, receive feedback, and contribute positively to a team.
• Interest in nutrition, gardening, or hands-on learning.
• Commitment to creating a welcoming and respectful environment for children and families from diverse backgrounds.
• Access to reliable transportation.
• First Aid/CPR certified by time of employment
