There is an opportunity in my lab for a limited appointment (LA) hire with the USDA ARS located in Byron, GA. We are focused on applying fundamental genomic knowledge in Pecans to inform cultivar development. We are particularly focused on developing genomic resources in Pecans and their ecological partners (both beneficial and antagonistic). I am looking to hire someone for a six-month, full-time appointment at the GS5-0404 level, although part-time, full-year employment is suitable for the right candidate. Presently, the lab needs bioinformatic support for genome assembly projects, however, a qualified candidate with experience in DNA and RNA extraction or field work would be considered. Candidates should send me a CV and a cover letter describing their experience at the command line performing genome assembly, annotation, and population or comparative genomics, or other relevant experience. As is typical with government, there is a very tight window for this opportunity, all materials must be received by Monday 4/20/26.
Candidates can email me a pdf with the documents to karl.fetter@usda.gov with the subject line "LA Application Byron". Transcripts are required if using academic record to qualify, and can be submitted at a later date if selected. Happy to field questions or to chat more over the phone: (478)-444-2668.
