Position Title: Engineering Technician Individual Placement
Position Summary:
Boise National Forest (BNF) Engineering is recruiting two, 12-week (480 hours) individual placements beginning June 1, 2026 through August 21, 2026. The participant will aid in survey, design, and construction administration of Disaster Recovery projects related to the 2024 wildfires.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific activities include:
- [25%] Performs tasks related to road design, such as computes levels; plots road profiles, cross sections, and traverses; traces completed plans and profiles; prepares data for computerized input; and works from printouts or reports.
- [25%] Assists with work related to constructing or reconstructing roads, trails, or other facilities, such as collecting and analyzing materials, taking measurements; and reporting on contractor's progress to a higher-level engineer.
- [25%] Assists with road inventories, mapping, signing, traffic counts, or other work related to the maintenance of roads, trails or facilities.
- [25%] Develops sketches, drawings, and/or work requests for support operations, such as simple modifications to transportation facilities that are easily visualized, fit a similar pattern, and/or are specified by a senior technician or engineer.
Required Qualifications:
- Ages 18-30 (up to 35 for veterans)
- S. Citizen or lawful, permanent resident
- Must pass a background/driver check
- Valid Drivers License
Desired Qualifications:
- Any training either academic or professional in engineering, surveying, or construction is preferred but not required.
- Personal transportation
Duty Location:
Duties are performed within Boise National Forest. Position will report to the Supervisor's office at 1387 S Vinnell Way, Boise, ID, 83709.
Terms of Employment:
One individual placement will complete a term of service (480 hours), starting June 1, 2026 through August 21, 2026 for a total of 12 Weeks. The Individual placement will average 40 hours of labor per week, minus holidays. Individual placements are responsible for providing their own personal transportation and food. Housing may be provided.
Program Benefits:
Individual placements will earn $7,680 living allowance plus a housing fund of TBD, dispersed on a monthly basis throughout the 12 weeks. The living allowance are taxable.
