Context of the project

As part of the implementation of a project in the Saadani area, Tanzania, we are seeking an individual service provider or a qualified consulting firm to provide technical and operational support in agroforestry, ecological restoration, and project management. The project aims to strengthen the economic empowerment of women and youth, notably through oil production, while promoting sustainable coexistence between communities and elephants through ecosystem restoration, livelihood improvement, and biodiversity conservation, in close collaboration with local partners and communities.

Purpose of the assignement

The service provider will be responsible for providing specialized support for the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of project activities.

Main responsabilities

The selected service provider will in particular be responsible for:

• supporting the technical and operational planning of project activities;
• contributing to the design and implementation of agroforestry, reforestation, and community conservation activities, as well as to the establishment and monitoring of the oil laboratory, the development and testing of protection measures, and the delivery of training, educational tools, and awareness-raising activities on human-elephant coexistence;
• providing technical support to local partners, communities, authorities, and other stakeholders involved in the project;
• contributing to the monitoring of field activities, data collection and analysis, and indicator tracking;
• supporting the preparation of technical reports, summary notes, operational recommendations, and other project deliverables;
• contributing to the identification of technical and operational risks and, where necessary, proposing corrective measures;
• participating in coordination meetings and, when required, representing the project in technical exchanges with relevant partners.

Eligibility of the service provider

This call is open to:

• individual consultants based in Tanzania;

or

• consulting firms / entities legally registered in Tanzania.

The service provider must:

• be based in Tanzania;
• be able to intervene directly in the field according to project needs.

Minimum qualifications

The consultant, or at least the lead expert proposed by the firm, must demonstrate:

• at least a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;
• at least 5 years of relevant professional experience;
• proven experience in Africa, ideally in East Africa;
• demonstrated experience in reforestation, agroforestry, ecological restoration, or conservation projects;
• solid experience in project coordination and management, including operational monitoring and reporting.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of field-based agronomic and agroecological approaches;
• Good understanding of ecosystem restoration and conservation issues;
• Ability to work with local communities, technical partners, and administrative authorities;
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and writing skills;
• Professional proficiency in English and Swahili, both written and spoken;
• Good command of office software and project monitoring tools.

Evaluation criteria

Applications will be assessed in particular on the basis of:

• the provider’s administrative and legal compliance to operate in Tanzania;
• the relevance of academic qualifications;
• experience in similar assignments;
• experience in Tanzania or comparable contexts;
• the required language skills;
• understanding of the assignment and the quality of the technical and financial proposal.
