Flathead Valley Canvass Director Position Description 

Supervisor: Western Field Director

Now Hiring; Starting in August, 2026; applications accepted on a rolling basis as needed 

Hours and Duration: 38 hours/week through November 13th, 2026 (typically afternoons and evenings, Monday - Friday) 

Location: Flathead Valley, Montana,  in-person - Communities in Flathead and Lake counties

Compensation: $27/hour, travel reimbursement

The Role:

We are seeking a motivated individual to help build a team to identify local leaders and the issues of greatest concern in the communities we work in across the Flathead Valley. This position will also lead an electoral canvass starting in late August. This position will work closely with and be supervised by the Western Field Director.

Responsibilities: 

• Work with other Montana Rural Voters staff to develop and implement a winning field strategy 
• Supervise up to 4 canvassers and manage the day-to-day operations of a field canvass operation. This includes leading volunteer and paid canvass trainings, and list and data management. Identify and coordinate  local volunteers to host events in the area.
• Talk to voters door-to-door and over the phone.
• Coordinate with other large-scale canvass operations within the area, where legally appropriate. 
• Cultivate a healthy, enjoyable, and productive team environment amongst the canvass team.

Mandatory Qualifications: 

• Strong verbal communication skills with people of all types 
• Previous campaign and canvass experience  Experience with voter file databases (the VAN) 
• Ability to drive a personal or work vehicle, including holding a valid driver’s license 
• Ability to work evenings and occasionally travel for out-of-town, overnight work
• Ability to spend hours outside in adverse conditions, walking door to door and talking to people
• Self-motivated and a team player

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience onboarding, training, or coaching canvassers or volunteers 
• Ability to drive a personal or work vehicle, including holding a valid driver’s license
• An interest in local politics 
• Experience working with diverse communities and a commitment to equity and inclusion
