Montana Conservation Voters (MCV) and the MCV Action Fund are seeking well-organized, engaging CANVASSERS to connect with voters one-on-one about a variety of vital issues important to protecting Montana’s natural resources and the candidates willing to fight for conservation in public office. This boots-on-the-ground role would be great for a person who can lean into important conversations, and has a passion for conservation, strong sense of organization, and the ability to work independently. MCV is currently hiring Canvassers in Billings and Bozeman for the ongoing election cycle.
WHO WE ARE
Montana Conservation Voters is a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)4 membership organization whose mission is to protect our clean air, clean water, public lands, and democracy by supporting leaders who fight for conservation and by holding accountable leaders who do not. The MCV Action Fund is an independent state political action committee (PAC) that supports pro-conservation candidates fighting for these issues.
JOB DESCRIPTION: CANVASSER
Canvassers will empower Montanans and amplify their voices by engaging them at their doors during the ongoing election cycle. Canvassers will be part of a local team committed to protecting Montana values by electing pro-conservation candidates. This is an excellent opportunity for those wanting to get more engaged and shape the future of Montana.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Knocking on voters’ doors to have guided conversations about endorsed candidates and conservation issues
- Phone banking to have guided conversations with voters about endorsed candidates and conservation issues
- With training provided, entering accurate data about voters and conversations in the canvassing database
- Being responsive to feedback from the Regional Organizer and assisting with administrative tasks related to canvassing
QUALIFICATIONS
- A strong commitment to MCV’s mission and goals
- Clear verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with the public and your canvassing team
- Experience following detailed directions and proactively seeking feedback from a supervisor
- Ability to learn and share important information with the public with excellent attention to detail
- Self-motivation and ability to problem solve
- Access to reliable transportation AND a reliable smartphone or tablet that can be used while canvassing
- Ability to work 20 to 29 hours per week, with evening and weekend availability strongly preferred
Canvassers should plan to commit to a minimum of 20 hours weekly, but they may work no more than 29 hours weekly. Canvassers will work outside at least 80% of their workday and be on their feet walking for at least 80% of each work shift.

COMPENSATION
MCV offers a competitive hourly wage of $25 per hour with bonus opportunities. Canvassers can work up to 29 hours a week and are eligible for partial reimbursement of individual health insurance premiums through an ICHRA benefit.
