About the Position:

The Cascadia PBA is seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded individual to serve as the Prescribed Burn Association (PBA) Coordinator. This position plays a critical role in fostering collaboration among landowners, conservation organizations, and local stakeholders to promote the safe and effective use of prescribed fire for land management. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary liaison between landowners, partners, and agencies involved in prescribed burning.

  • Organize, plan and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and training events related to prescribed fire.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local landowners, organizations, agencies, and other stakeholders.

  • Assist in outreach efforts, including creating informational materials and managing social media content.

  • Support logistical planning for prescribed burns, including scheduling, securing resources, and coordinating volunteers.

  • Seek funding opportunities through grant writing, fundraisers and partnerships.

  • Establish post fire monitoring protocol/ procedures/ outreach.

  • Participate in WA Prescribed Fire Council and The WAPBA network.

  • Participate in other Fire related networks and organizations.

  • Conduct site visits with private landowners interested in prescribed fire.

  • Support landowners with burn plan development and permitting.

  • Facilitate quarterly Steering Committee Meetings.

  • Be an as needed crewmember of the Ecological Services prescribed burn crew.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to engage with diverse audiences.

  • Ability to plan and execute events, meetings, and training sessions.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while collaborating with a team.

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Willingness to learn about prescribed fire and land management practices.

  • Experience with outreach, public speaking, and community engagement.

  • Computer skills, including email, social media, and document management.

  • Content/Outreach creation through canva, IG, and similar apps.

  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed.

  • Prior prescribed fire experience is desired but NOT required—but most important is a willingness to learn and a passion for engaging with the community.

  • NWCG Qualifications and familiarity are a plus.

  • WA Certified Burn Manager or an interest becoming certified.
