Position Summary

The Chief Information Officer translates business strategy into IT demands and effects large organizational changes by advancing progressive IT strategies and practices within the organization and the conservation movement. They provide organization-wide systems direction that focuses on adding value, keeping technologies current, optimizing processes, managing risk and cost, ensuring systems are secure, and complying with policies, procedures, and established standards. They inspire and motivate staff by being a catalyst for creative problem solving, customer service excellence, efficiency and teamwork.

As a member of the Operations Management team (OMT) the CIO is responsible for IT execution of conservation operational projects. As a member of the Executive Council, they are responsible for actively participating in executive level decision-making and execution of outcomes related to IT. They collaborate to create and implement plans to manage and upgrade systems as driven by the needs of the business. They establish effective service partnerships with all organizational units and staff by cultivating excellence in client relations and leading the strategic development and deployment of IT services and support.

The CIO manages and is accountable for, either directly or indirectly, the performance of approximately 150 staff located around the globe, a $30 million annual expense budget, negotiation and management of multimillion dollars contracts, outsourcing arrangements, and connectivity for 600+ offices in more than 30 countries.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 10+ years’ senior level IT experience required, including strategy, project management, systems and large network operations, and direct supervision of global IT personnel.
  • At least five years of experience at an executive level successfully demonstrating vision and leadership of leading-edge IT for strategic business improvement of a mid to large size organization.
  • Functional expertise and knowledge of key technologies and architecture at integrated systems levels.
  • Functional expertise and knowledge of Cloud Transformation practices.
  • Functional expertise and knowledge of Digital technologies and effective use cases.
  • Functional expertise and knowledge of Data Governance.
  • Functional expertise and knowledge of AI, M&E and other transformative tools.
  • Functional expertise and knowledge of organizational risk management.
  • Exceptional management and communication skills.
  • Experience managing large staffs and budgets and tracking complex long-term projects as necessary.
  • Proven track record in organizational development and progressive assimilation of systems, staff, and business strategies.
  • Proven ability to provide excellent operational performance and customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, cultivate and manage internal and external partnerships with key IT suppliers, donors, consultants and high-level volunteers.
