Apex Analytics, an employee-owned energy consulting firm based in Boulder, Colorado, is looking for an Analyst or Senior Analyst (0-3 years experience) to join our team. Apex offers energy efficiency, beneficial electrification, demand response, dynamic pricing, and electric vehicle program planning and evaluation services for utilities, public agencies, and other program sponsors.  We are a small, 18-person firm, offer a casual, highly collaborative, friendly working environment (dogs allowed), and value our time in and out of the office. Our clients are located throughout the U.S. and think of us as dedicated partners in solving their most difficult problems related to the clean energy transition. Working in the clean energy space, we also believe that work should provide an opportunity to do “good” and do “well” at the same time.

Analyst position tasks include support and direct analysis for planning, market research, impact evaluation, and cost-effectiveness testing of energy efficiency and demand flexibility programs, as well as supporting project managers to keep projects on task and on budget. The position will also require summarizing and visualizing the findings for client reports and presentations. Future growth will involve greater responsibility for analyses and reporting on evaluation, research, and data science projects. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, independent problem solver who is detail-oriented.  

Responsibilities:

  • Perform analysis of clean energy technologies in buildings and on electric distribution systems.
  • Prepare and update complex spreadsheets that model energy program forecasts, savings and costs 
  • Collect, clean, synthesize, and analyze data from multiple sources, including energy consumption or energy device data, via engineering analysis or other tools such as statistical tools or building simulation models incorporating customer billing data.
  • Assess potential savings of energy efficient or electrification technologies under various configurations and scenarios and advise clients on their applications.
  • Support for various tasks related to energy efficiency program evaluation and research (survey analysis, program database review, etc.) 
  • Visualize results and report findings in an understandable manner (charts, graphs, infographics)
  • Assist with preparation of project deliverables including presentations, reports, and data exports
  • Manage time and tasks to keep multiple projects on track
  • Support project managers in tracking timelines, deliverables, processes, invoices, and client communications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or higher degree with relevant quantitative analysis coursework
  • Relevant experience in data analysis, market research, engineering or energy
  • Proven ability to deliver tasks on time and communicate well with the team
  • Proven ability to balance multiple projects, multiple tasks and keep organized priorities
  • Interest in clean energy
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience in reports and presentations
  • Ability to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's or higher degree with coursework in engineering, statistics and/or econometrics
  • Experience and interest in project management
  • Ability to code in Python or R
  • Expertise in tools to manage and analyze large datasets including high frequency advanced meter or other end-use energy consumption data
  • Advanced experience in Excel, including formulas such as xlookup/index/match/sumifs, pivot tables, charts, and figures
  • Experience analyzing energy and carbon savings opportunities
  • Understanding of utility-run DSM programs and evaluation needs and knowledge of clean energy technologies

The salary for this position is between $75,000 and $95,000 depending on experience, with up to 5% annual bonus and a generous vacation package. Full-time and part-time options available. Office locations: Boulder, CO (preferred) and employee remote locations.
