Position Summary

Climate Impact Corps members serve with public agencies and non-profit organizations across the State of Minnesota to support local efforts to mitigate and prepare for climate change. Climate Impact Corps members serve in one of three intiaitives:

  • Community Forestry – Members support communities large and small by preserving and increasing tree canopy.
  • Home Energy– Members support Minnesotans who are eligible for the Weatherization Assistance Program by aiding energy auditors and education residents on energy efficiency.
  • Community Resilience- Members support sustainability projects, encourage local environmental action, and provide education to help households and organizations make sustainable choices.

Service Term: 

October 24, 2022 – July 29, 2023


Climate Impact Corps members serving in 40 hour per week roles receive:

  • A stipend of $1,100 paid every 2 weeks
    • $23,103 total for 1,350 hours of service starting in October 2022
  • Up to $4546.50 for tuition or student loans*
  • Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment
  • Individual health insurance — Monthly premium 100% covered
  • Child care assistance — Based on family size and income
  • Beginning in 2022-23, Home Energy members will have the option to earn the BPI Building Analyst certification at no cost. This credential prepares members to launch a career in the green building sector and earn $20+ an hour as entry-level Home Energy Auditors.

What it Takes

Our members come from all walks of life. The most important qualification is a passion to take action for your community – and meet the following minimum qualifications. By the time they begin their service, our members are

  • Dependable and have a history of good attendance
  • Able to understand and follow instructions
  • Set a pace and maintain a service schedule of 40 or 25 hours per week
  • Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online)
  • Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing 
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States*
  • Able to successfully complete a background check

*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.
