THE OPPORTUNITY
We are growing and are looking for a dynamic Communication & Development Manager to help bring our research to life, expand our partnerships, and secure the resources needed to protect the Lake Eyasi Clans.
This is not a desk job. It is a hands-on role at the intersection of science, storytelling, and strategy, designed for someone who wants responsibility, creative freedom, and real-world impact.
POSITION: DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
You will play a key role in shaping how our work is seen, supported, and sustained—by donors, partners, media, and local communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Communication & Storytelling
- Turn field research into compelling stories for social media, websites, newsletters, and media outlets
- Develop signature formats such as hyena clan profiles, photo-ID features, and "Life at the Den" updates
- Support national and international PR efforts and strengthen our public visibility
Fundraising & Development
- Create and manage study sponsorships (hyena clans, GPS-collaring missions, camera trap networks)
- Write targeted grant proposals for biodiversity monitoring and conflict mitigation projects
- Communicate impact clearly and transparently to supporters
Partnerships & Coordination
- Build meaningful collaborations with universities, NGOs, conservation organizations, and donors
- Coordinate with TAWIRI and local authorities to align communication with national conservation priorities
Digital Presence
- Manage and continuously improve our website and online donation platforms
- Ensure supporters can clearly see how their contributions translate into conservation outcomes
QUALIFICATIONS
- Background in conservation, communications, environmental sciences, media, or a related field
- Strong ability to translate scientific or technical information into engaging public-facing content
- Experience with social media management, analytics, and basic design tools (Canva and/or Adobe)
- Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or partnership development is an asset
- Excellent communication skills in English; Swahili is a strong advantage
- Independent, adaptable, and comfortable working in a remote field environment
LOCATION & CONDITIONS
- Location: Lake Eyasi Bush Camp, Endamaghan, Karatu District, Northern Tanzania
- Field Work: Regular time in the bush camp, with coordination and representation in Arusha
- Start Date: Flexible / as soon as possible
- Commitment: Long-term preferred
- Compensation: Accommodation and basic living costs provided, satellite internet
