Houston Arboretum & Nature Center is looking for undergraduate students entering their Junior or Senior year, or Seniors that have graduated within the year with an interest in conservation, ecological restoration, and environmental research for a summer internship position. This internship is designed for hands-on environmental work as well as performing research, allowing students to receive university credit hours if applicable.
Requirements:
- Previous university coursework in ecology, conservation, natural resource management, plant biology, geology or soil sciences, horticulture, forestry, entomology or similar is preferred
- Previous coursework, experience, or familiarity with research and monitoring methods is recommended
- Ability to work in a team with other interns and Conservation Staff
- Must be able to work outdoors performing strenuous work in hot and humid weather
- The ability to lift to 25 pounds, move safely over uneven terrain, climb stairs and work frequently outdoors
Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
- Assist Conservation staff to undertake best management practices associated with conservation, ecological restoration and natural resource management
- Assist Conservation staff to perform routine facilities maintenance such as trail management
- Manage and assist pilot research studies related to conservation and ecological restoration practices
- Invasive species management, along with various removal methods including herbicide application
- Other duties as assigned

- Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation to and from the Houston Arboretum
