Native Fish Society Seeks a Conservation Campaign Coordinator
The Native Fish Society is an Oregon-based nonprofit organization that exists to cultivate a groundswell of public support for reviving abundant wild fish, free-flowing rivers, and thriving local communities across the Pacific Northwest.
In our 30-year history, the Native Fish Society has never been more strategically positioned to advance the future of wild fish in the Pacific Northwest. Our community is passionate, persistent, and focused on long-term solutions.
Recent accomplishments include securing the North Umpqua as Oregon’s first river managed for all wild summer and winter steelhead; holding Winchester Water Control District accountable for a fish kill at Winchester Dam resulting in $27 million in fines; advancing landmark fish passage improvements on the Willamette River system; and securing increased monitoring and accountability for wild steelhead fisheries along the Southern Oregon coast.
The Opportunity
We are restructuring our team to give our campaign work a focused owner who can build lasting field relationships and drive conservation outcomes across Oregon and Northern California.
This is a new role, created at a pivotal moment for the organization and for wild fish in the Pacific Northwest.
The Conservation Campaign Coordinator will lead NFS’s place-based hatchery reform campaigns in Oregon, coordinating closely with NFS campaign staff to ensure field-level strategy reinforces the statewide wild fish narrative we are building. The role will also take ownership of a long-term river recovery campaign in the Deschutes Basin, and coordinate science-based campaigns in Northern California. This person will need to move fluidly between grassroots coalition work, agency and regulatory engagement, and science coordination — often on the same river system at the same time.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is energized by coalition-building and place-based advocacy, comfortable holding a diverse portfolio of conservation work, and ready to contribute to a team that is shaping the future of wild fish management in the Pacific Northwest.
