Are you passionate about wildlife conservation and education? Join us as a Conservation Educator I at Salato Wildlife Education Center with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR). In this 9-month full-time seasonal position, you’ll play a key role in delivering engaging conservation education programs while sharing your enthusiasm for KDFWR’s mission to manage and conserve fish and wildlife across the Commonwealth. This position pays $18.31/hr. and runs from March through November.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver daily formal and informal public programs using props, visual aids, and live animals.
• Engage visitors and answer questions.
• Conduct animal training, enrichment and basic husbandry activities.
• Teach Hunter Education range day certification courses.
• Develop educational materials and complete written reports.
• Collaborate with fellow educators to plan and deliver programs and special events.
• Support visitor services, including admissions, sales, and guest interactions.
• Assist with general maintenance of exhibits, grounds, and hiking trails using basic tools.
• Perform work in classrooms, outdoor zoo settings, amphitheaters, and on a firing range.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in natural or physical science, education, recreation, or a related field.
• Work 37.50 hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including special events as needed, from March through November.
• Comfortable with public speaking and hands-on work with wildlife such as snakes, turtles, and raptors.
• Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including running, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting heavy objects.
• Proficient in computer usage and familiar with small hand tools (e.g., leaf blowers, weed eaters, trimmers, shovels, etc.).
• Obtain a Hunter Education Card, a valid KDFWR-issued hunting or fishing license, and certification in CPR/First Aid.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and be at least 21 years of age.
