Build conservation projects from the field up. NPSWCD is seeking a hands-on natural-resource professional to work directly with agricultural producers, forest landowners, partners, and District staff on conservation programs throughout Nez Perce County. This position combines field implementation, program administration, monitoring, restoration-site work, GIS/GPS, and extensive technical documentation.

What you will do

• Assist agricultural producers with IAMP enrollment, conservation-practice verification, field information, soil sampling, and conservation-planning tools such as RUSLE and WIN-PST.
• Help administer hazardous-fuels treatment projects on private forestland, including landowner coordination, project records, treatment-plan support, GPS/GIS documentation, and frequent field inspections during active treatments.
• Deploy and maintain stream gages and temperature loggers; download, organize, quality-check, and help analyze monitoring data.
• Operate pumps and irrigation systems and perform hands-on maintenance at riparian and other restoration sites.
• Prepare accurate field notes, photographs, maps, monitoring records, inspection documentation, project files, technical reports, and grant-supporting records.

• Experience or education in agriculture, forestry, soils, fisheries, wildlife, watershed science, environmental science, range management, restoration, GIS/GPS, monitoring, or a related field.

Minimum qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and progressively responsible natural-resource experience. Valid, insurable driver license required. Applicants must be able to work outdoors on rough terrain and lift/carry field equipment and supplies up to approximately 40 pounds.

Compensation & growth

$22.00-$27.00 per hour, depending upon qualifications and experience. Starting wage will reflect demonstrated education, relevant experience, technical proficiency, and ability to independently perform assigned conservation program responsibilities. The position is designed to provide increasing responsibility and decision-making authority as the employee demonstrates technical competence, reliability, and sound judgment.

First six months

Expect a fast-moving mix of IAMP producer assistance, hazardous-fuels treatment monitoring, stream-temperature and gage work, restoration-site irrigation and maintenance, and extensive project documentation. Training will be provided in District procedures and specialized tools where needed.
