Wildlands is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to join our growing engineering and environmental restoration team in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina. This position will oversee the successful delivery of complex municipal construction projects as well as turnkey projects designed and delivered by our in-house engineering team.

The ideal candidate is an organized, solutions-oriented construction professional who understands how to manage projects from planning and preconstruction through construction, closeout, and final acceptance. This role requires strong field experience, an understanding of civil and environmental construction, and the ability to coordinate effectively with municipal clients, contractors, engineers, subcontractors, and internal project teams.

Our projects may include stream and wetland restoration, dam removal, stormwater improvements, flood mitigation, site development, utility work, green infrastructure, and other complex public infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with in-house engineers and scientists to integrate design and construction considerations from project inception through completion.
• Help identify opportunities to improve project efficiency, constructability, cost, and schedule.
• Assist with procurement, contractor selection, bid evaluation, and contract negotiations
• Lead regular contractor/owner/engineer coordination meetings and distribute meeting documents as required.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for contractors, owners, inspectors, municipal agencies, and other stakeholders during construction.
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of project contract documents, specifications, and project manual requirements.
• Review contractor payment applications and supporting documentation for accuracy and contract compliance; recommend approval for payment.
• Issue field bulletins and coordinate changes required during construction.
• Coordinate, manage, and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), ensuring timely resolution of field issues.
• Ensure contractor adherence to contract requirements, specifications, testing protocols, special inspections, and quality control measures.
• Track and monitor overall project schedule and coordinate regularly with contractors regarding progress and critical milestones.
• Maintain accurate project records.
• Conduct regular site visits and provide construction oversight to verify that work is progressing according to plans, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Coordinate field inspections to resolve construction conflicts.
• Evaluate field conditions and coordinate appropriate design or construction modifications with the engineering team.

Qualifications

• 5-10+ years of progressive construction management experience, preferably with civil, environmental, infrastructure, or municipal projects.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
• Experience administering stream restoration, infrastructure, municipal, utility, transportation, water/wastewater, or public works projects preferred.
• Working knowledge of construction contracts, specifications, project manuals, and project scheduling principles.
• Strong understanding of RFI, submittal, pay application, testing, inspection, and change management processes.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lead meetings, manage multiple projects, and coordinate diverse stakeholder groups.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Physical Demands

• Ability to frequently walk over rough, uneven surfaces.
• Part of the job requirements and the physical demands are performed in outdoor weather conditions with frequent exposure to wet/humid conditions and extreme heat or cold.
