Mutual Self-Help Construction Supervisor job description:

  • Lead and supervise homeowners through building a modest and affordable self-help home
  • Ensure homeowners and dedicated volunteers are contributing to 65% of the labor of the home and fulfilling their monthly hours
  • Mentor and supervise associate supervisors, assistant builders, AmeriCorps apprentices, interns, participating families, and volunteers
  • Facilitate mid contract check in’s with build staff and apprentices to obtain feedback and give evaluations
  • Focus on employee recruitment and retention, mentor assistant supervisors to work towards being lead supervisors
  • Supervise the build site to include safety, site layout, and cleanliness
  • Oversee take offs, ordering, budgets, and build schedule
  • Ensure team is using proper purchasing and bookkeeping procedures
  • Perform instruction of proper tool use and safety practices
  • Maintain and establish new relationships with vendors and subs
  • Find creative solutions to meet the budget and timeline goals
  • Attend meetings (build, homeowner, pre-construction, supervisor, etc)
  • Contribute to creating systems and incorporate them into the instructors manual
  • Oversee tool inventory and asset management
  • Motivate the crew to work together as a team and maintain morale
  • Identify those team members who aren’t thriving and try to find a solution.  If no solution can be achieved, schedule meeting with program staff and executive director

Compensation negotiable based on experience, skills, and contract. Start and end dates of contract can be flexible and ongoing. Housing can be available as part of compensation. IRA and PTO benefits included.
