Western Colorado Conservation Corps

Grand Junction , Colorado

Camp and serve in the back country of Western Colorado. Corps members earn a weekly stipend, plus food and lodging when required to camp at project site. Career training takes place primarily in a back country setting and involves building and maintaining trails and fences, invasive species removal, and habitat restoration. Learn to camp, cook, orienteer, and live in a community setting. Corps members also have the opportunity to earn an AmeriCorps Education Award (restrictions apply). Member must not engage in any prohibited activities as listed in the AmeriCorps Member Service Agreement. Ideal candidates will be available for training starting at end of July- end of November.

Duties

  • Must be willing and able to camp at least 4 nights per week
  • Successfully complete new Corps Member Orientation and CPR/First Aid Training
  • Complete conservation projects throughout Western Colorado
  • Must be motivated, responsible, and have a positive attitude
  • Willing to cook at camp site when necessary
  • Must participate in WCCC education program
  • Participate in WCCC wide volunteer events

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting 30-50 lbs
  • Hiking up to 8 miles per day
  • Be willing and able to run a chainsaw and use hand tools after appropriate training
  • Must be able to complete arduous work in adverse weather conditions

Qualifications

No experience necessary! However, you must:

  • Be a United states citizen or permanent resident
  • Be available full time between the dates specified on the Member Service Agreement
  • Be between the ages of 16-25
  • Able to pass a pre-service National Criminal History check (State, Sex Offender, and Federal)
