EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Colorado Teaching Licensure
  • Three years of successful teaching experience
  • Extensive knowledge of NGSS/Colorado Academic Standards

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in education or related field
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish/English

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary Objective: The PLC Curriculum Specialist is responsible for providing high-quality, standards-based educational programming for K-12 students. Position objectives include: developing, maintaining, implementing, and evaluating K-12 Field Experiences; maintaining, strengthening, and expanding district and school partnerships; recruiting, training, and supervising a team of volunteer educators; and ensuring that the Poudre Learning Center is at the forefront of environmental education in the State of Colorado.

Essential Functions:

  • Designs Inquiry and phenomena-based curriculum that aligns with Colorado Academic Standards
  • Works with building principals and teams to develop and implement relevant, standards-based programming
  • Organizes, updates, and maintains curriculum and materials for PLC Field Experiences
  • Manages all PLC Field Experience requests and communication with partner schools
  • Creates schedules and science notebooks for each school's Field Experience and sends to teachers prior to program
  • Organizes and facilitates all PLC Field Experiences
  • Greets school groups and provides orientation for students, teachers, and volunteers
  • Completes curriculum and programmatic evaluations of all PLC K-12 Programming
  • Leads and coordinates volunteer recruitment, training, and performance.
  • Provides professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers
  • Supports District 6 Elementary and Secondary Curriculum Coordinators in onboarding teachers
  • Provides data and supplemental information for grant applications as needed
  • Supports communication, social media campaigns, and outreach
  • Engages in team, building, and district outreach, communication, and marketing
  • Studies and evaluates new instructional techniques for possible use at the PLC and by classroom teachers
  • Develops and implements plans for curriculum revisions and instructional materials adoptions in conjunction with District 6
  • Stays current in curricular and pedagogical trends through professional readings, seminars, workshops, and conventions
  • Support grant goal implementation, data collection and reporting
  • Coordinates volunteer recognition and celebration efforts
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Knowledge and skills sufficient to perform all duties of the position.

  • Prefers a work environment where flexibility, ability to deal with conflict, a high tolerance for stress, an ability to quickly internalize information and make informed decisions, and long hours are a part of the assignment

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Work Environment/Physical Demands: Ability to sit for long periods of time, ability to work in an outdoor setting in all weather conditions, numerous distractions, visual, auditory and ambulatory acuity important. Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.

Travel: Travel may be required

Additional Qualifications: Excellent writing and public speaking skills; outstanding organizational and planning abilities; strong ability to work effectively with individuals and groups; knowledgeable in the area of science content, instructional methods, and theory; desire to serve as a team player; ability to facilitate groups; problem-solving and conflict resolution skills; strong leadership skills.
