Position Title: Development & Outreach Associate
Work Location: Asheville, NC (Hybrid)
Hourly rate: $24-$25/hr. based on experience

Mission Statement: EcoForesters is a nonprofit professional forestry organization dedicated to conserving and restoring our Appalachian forests through stewardship and education.

Purpose of Position: EcoForesters seeks a dynamic Development & Outreach Associate to support our grant-funded engagement efforts in rural communities and to assist the Development team in day-to-day operations, including data entry, funder research, writing & proofreading, and reporting. As a key member of our small but dedicated team, they will support community engagement, outreach communications efforts, event planning, and general outreach planning. The ideal candidate for this role should be outgoing, with excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills. They should be a self-starter who thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. For the right candidate this role is an ideal opportunity to learn multiple facets of external relations within a small nonprofit organization and to provide input around overall engagement strategies across the wider WNC area.

Day to Day Activities: Report to and work with the Executive Director and Development Director to establish and implement a development and communications schedule that supports the development of EcoForesters and is in alignment with the organization's strategic planning. Lead intake communications in coordination with programming staff. Assist outreach staff towards the development and coordination of outreach projects, events, and communications. Day-to-day Development Operations duties, as assigned, including data entry and acknowledgements.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable engaging with community members, donors, and board members.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace and design software (such as Canva).
  • Experience with marketing or promotion of programs, projects, or events via social media and other channels.
  • Excellent writing skills, presentation skills, and the ability to create content in support of the mission.
  • Prepare accurate records and reports to assist Executive Director and Development Director.

Preferences:

  • Experience in Salesforce or other CRM
  • Degree in public relations, marketing, or communications
  • Familiarity with the greater Asheville/Western North Carolina community
  • Passion for environmental conservation
