A fast-growing conservation organization seeks to hire a passionate and proactive individual to serve as its Development Communications Manager. The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP) is looking for a skilled leader to bring our conservation work to life for everyday donors. This role is the creative and strategic engine behind our grassroots fundraising efforts - crafting the messages, campaigns, and donor journeys that inspire people to give, sustain their support, and deepen their connection to our mission.

Founded in 2002, the TRCP is a national nonprofit conservation organization with a mission to guarantee all Americans quality places to hunt and fish. We do this by uniting and amplifying our partners’ voices to advance America’s legacy of conservation, habitat, and access.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the TRCP communications team, development team, and policy centers to lead grassroots fundraising communications that advance the TRCP's conservation mission through compelling donor engagement.
  • Manage grassroots fundraising campaigns, including sustainer and recurring gift programs, sweepstakes, auctions, and seasonal promotions that are innovative, on-brand, and revenue-driven.
  • Create, edit, and promote donor-facing content including appeal letters, impact reports, campaign case statements, email series, and social media campaigns.
  • Design and manage donor acquisition and cultivation funnels that move prospects from awareness to first gift to sustained giving, applying sound marketing principles across channels.
  • Mobilize supporters and donors through targeted emails, online campaigns, and social media.
  • Develop and deploy state-specific email communications to support grassroots engagement, strengthen regional donor relationships, and advance place-based conservation priorities.
  • Maintain and manage donor database records and portfolio data to support targeted outreach, track campaign performance, and inform fundraising strategy.
  • Identify and surface fundable stories and conservation outcomes from across TRCP's programmatic portfolios to fuel donor communications - serving as a trusted content partner to program and policy staff without owning policy areas directly.
  • Develop an organizational brand store to support donor engagement, grassroots fundraising, and mission visibility.
  • Use analytics to measure the effectiveness of fundraising communications strategies and tactics, compiling metrics and insights in reports as needed.
  • Be a thought partner with the entire TRCP communications and development teams.

Essential Experience, Skills, and Competencies

  • At least three to five years of experience in development communications, grassroots fundraising, direct response writing, or digital marketing, preferably with a portion of that time in a nonprofit or advocacy setting.
  • Strategic mindset, with a demonstrated record of designing and implementing effective fundraising or donor communications strategies.
  • Ability to summarize and simplify complex conservation issues and translate them into engaging, emotionally compelling donor content.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills; ability to reach grassroots audiences with an engaging take on conservation outcomes; and ability to message inclusively in a way that resonates across political and geographic boundaries.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with communications, development, and program staff to strategize, develop, and deploy fundraising content across channels.
  • Experience with grassroots fundraising tactics including purchase-driven donation campaigns, recurring giving programs, sweepstakes, auctions, or other promotional campaigns.
  • Familiarity with databases and CRM platforms (such as Salesforce, EveryAction, Raiser's Edge, or similar); comfortable managing data, pulling reports, and maintaining portfolio records.
  • Working knowledge of email marketing platforms and best practices, including segmentation, list management, A/B testing, and performance analytics.
  • Experience with social media content strategy in support of fundraising or advocacy goals.
  • Understanding marketing funnel principles and how to apply them in a nonprofit context.
  • Fluency with digital analytics, including reach, engagement, conversion, and audience growth.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Self-starter who can work with a team spread across the country.
  • Adept at taking initiative, planning, following through, and collaborating across departments.
  • Ability to focus in a fast-paced environment and pivot to the changing needs of the day.
  • A strong understanding of the voice and values of the hunt-fish community and public lands.
  • Experience developing or managing a branded merchandise store or e-commerce presence is a plus, though this is an opportunity the right candidate can build from scratch.
  • Experience working for a nonprofit is a plus.
