Overview of Ambition Loop
Ambition Loop is a global NGO based in Chile, dedicated to driving transformative action in climate change, biodiversity, land use, plastics pollution, food systems, and water. Founded by international leaders, including Nigel Topping and Gonzalo Muñoz — UN Climate Change High-Level Champions — Ambition Loop fosters collaboration between governments, civil society, and the private sector.
Our mission is rooted in a deep sense of responsibility toward the planet and its people, guided by bold collective goals and a commitment to radical collaboration built on generosity among partners. Ambition Loop works closely with the UN Climate Change High-Level Champions (HLCs) and other key actors to catalyze change.
Mangrove Breakthrough is pioneering how we, as a global community, protect nature to build resilient communities. It is a global movement to value, finance, and safeguard mangroves. The ambition is to mobilize $4 billion to protect and restore 15 million hectares of mangroves by 2030 by fostering radical collaboration, advancing science-based financial and regulatory decisions, and investing in local leadership.
The Mangrove Breakthrough Secretariat (“the Hub”) drives this mission by sustaining the multistakeholder partnership and building the infrastructure for lasting impact.
The Hub is legally hosted at Ambition Loop.
Overview of Loop & Key Project
This role sits within the Mangrove Breakthrough Hub.
Since its launch, the Mangrove Breakthrough has achieved significant success, including:
- Endorsement by the world’s largest mangrove countries, accounting for 60% of global mangroves.
- Development of a foundational blended finance infrastructure, with dozens of banks and investors onboard, tangible guidance frameworks launched to direct capital transition, and a robust project pipeline built in partnership with Restor.
The Mangrove Breakthrough is set to transform the scale of collective action through the Mangrove Catalytic Facility. The Facility will enable the emergence of a mangrove “restoration economy” through strategic capital injections that advance policy, build the pipeline, activate financial institutions, and enhance data-driven insight.
At the heart of this initiative is the Mangrove Catalytic Facility (MCF), the delivery engine providing USD 80–100 million in catalytic finance and technical assistance to unlock $4 billion in long-term investment.
Overview of the Role
The Development Director is the primary architect of fundraising and partnership growth for the Mangrove Breakthrough Hub.
You will lead the Growth & Partnerships department of the initiative. Your work is central to reaching the initiative’s inflection point: ensuring the MCF is on a path to full capitalization by 2028 to support large-scale finance products in the market.
You will also strengthen and expand the initiative’s partnership network, helping position the platform for investment across a range of funding and capital channels.
Key Responsibilities
- Fundraising Leadership & Platform Building: Co-lead fundraising strategy with the Executive Director, including the development of funding narratives and engagement strategies primarily for philanthropic organizations and multilateral institutions.
- Funder Onboarding: Identify, cultivate, and onboard new funders while maintaining engagement with current funders.
- Partnership Coordination: Nurture existing Mangrove Breakthrough (MB) partnerships to ensure alignment, collaboration, and delivery.
- New Partnership Development: Proactively identify and develop new key partnerships to accelerate collective impact.
- Strategic Collaboration: Mobilize and coordinate partners for collective fundraising strategies.
- Representation: Represent the Mangrove Breakthrough in public and private meetings.
About You
You are an experienced fundraising strategist and platform builder with a proven track record of mobilizing funding from multilateral institutions and philanthropies. You possess significant experience navigating complex funding landscapes, particularly within climate or blended finance, and understand how to structure partnerships that drive both financial sustainability and impact.
Rather than simply managing donor relationships, you are a natural relationship builder capable of engaging a diverse set of stakeholders. You thrive in identifying new opportunities for growth and are driven by the ambition to sustain the impact of the Mangrove Breakthrough and its partners.
Qualifications & Experience
To excel in this role, you meet or exceed the following qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Relations, Development Studies, Business Administration, or related fields.
- Experience: 7–10+ years of experience in fundraising, partnerships, finance, or related fields. Candidates with experience in blended finance or institutional engagement — particularly across philanthropy, multilateral institutions, and climate finance — are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Fundraising Track Record: Demonstrated success in securing funding (USD 1 million or more), or equivalent experience structuring large-scale institutional or blended finance investments.
- Strategic Capability: Ability to develop and execute fundraising strategies that align with long-term organizational growth and capital targets. Proven ability to build global funder narratives and position complex initiatives as investment-ready.
- Partnership Management: Demonstrated experience leading complex partnership networks and coordinating diverse stakeholders toward a common goal.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (additional languages are a plus).
- Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and work effectively in a remote, global environment.
